Corporate Social Responsibility

MUD TO CONCRETE TRANSFORMATION

C-WEED’s contribution to the economic progress of Zanzibar is clearly visible and tangibly enjoyed. Impressive house upgrades have become the shared success symbol for our farmers. Where there were only mudhouses thirty years ago, all the farmers we work with today have built concrete homes for their families.

Extending our outreach to the wider community, we have also supported school building programs which involved adding more classrooms and providing decent toilet facilities. Today, we are the proud employer of some of the farmers’ children who completed college.

WOMEN OF POWER

C-WEED works with a significant number of Zanzibarian women. From playing entirely domestic roles, women farmers have been transformed into economic contributors with many becoming family breadwinners. Consequently, seaweed farming has elevated immensely women’s status in Zanzibar and positively changed the way society view them in general.

RESPECTING OUR PARADISE

WE’RE KEEPING ZANZIBAR IDYLLIC

We take responsibility of every area where we farm in Zanzibar, privileged to keep it as pristine and idyllic as the day we started building our farms. We are fully committed to minimizing environmental impact. From the traditional use of mangrove stakes, we shifted to waste wood to help curb the depletion of Zanzibar’s mangroves. We carefully monitor the state of every nylon rope we use, ensuring proper disposal and keeping farming materials from drifting into the ocean.

SUSTAINABLE FARMING

Three decades of benefiting from the ocean’s generous harvests, C-WEED is more committed than ever to promote sustainable farming. Our farming methodology, our tools and technology all support our advocacy to keep the environment completely unchanged while pursuing a viable seaweed supply chain.
